Accessibility

New parents read this site at three in the morning, one-handed, on a phone. We want every page to work for everyone.

What we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we do

  • Pages are checked with automated accessibility testing (axe) at phone and desktop widths before they go live.
  • Everything can be used with a keyboard, and focus is always visible.
  • Text and controls meet contrast requirements.
  • Pages respect the reduced-motion setting, and nothing flashes.
  • Arabic is marked so screen readers pronounce it as Arabic, and every Arabic name has a transliteration and a meaning in English.
  • Illustrations that carry meaning have text descriptions; purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.

Known limits

  • The welcome card and invitation maker produce pictures. A screen reader cannot read the words inside the picture; they are the words you typed in the form, which you can send as a message as well.
  • The printable PDFs may be less easy to use with a screen reader than the web pages.
  • The site has not yet been audited by an independent accessibility tester.
