Meaning & source
Arabic: “the one with the kifl”, a share or a pledge. It is said he pledged himself to a duty and kept it.
The Qurʾān names him in the accusative, “dhā al-Kifl” (21:85, 38:48); the name is shown in its nominative citation form, Dhū al-Kifl, copied from al-Itqān (vol. 4, p. 75); the verse form is kept with 21:85.
