What the scholars said about this name
Ibn al-Qayyim counts names taken from the Qurʾān’s surah-openings, such as Ṭā Hā and Yā Sīn, among names that should not be given. He notes that Mālik disliked naming a child Yā Sīn and that the popular claim that these are names of the Prophet ﷺ has no sound basis. Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ reports that others allowed it. Many families who like the sound use Ṭāhā or Yāsīn anyway. Ask your imam.
